1. Who we are

ir35guide.co.uk is a free, independent UK contractor tax calculator. The site is operated as a sole trader / personal project. For questions about this policy, contact us at: hello@ir35guide.co.uk

We are not a financial adviser, accountant, or legal professional. Results from this calculator are estimates only and should not be relied upon as financial or tax advice.

2. What data we collect

We collect minimal data. Depending on your choices, this may include:

• Analytics data (only if you consent): pages visited, calculator tabs used, approximate location (country/region), device type, browser, time spent. Collected via Google Analytics 4.
• Cookie consent choice: stored in your browser's localStorage so we don't ask you again.
• No account data: this site has no accounts, no logins, no email sign-ups.
• No financial data: your day rate, expenses, pension amounts etc. are processed entirely in your browser and never leave your device.

3. Your calculator inputs

All tax calculations on this site run entirely in JavaScript in your browser. When you enter your day rate, salary, expenses, or any other financial information and click Calculate, that data is processed locally on your device. None of your financial inputs are transmitted to any server, stored in any database, or shared with any third party.

We do not log, record, or otherwise retain any financial information you enter into the calculator.

4. Cookies and local storage

We use localStorage (a browser storage mechanism similar to cookies) to remember your cookie consent preference. This means:

• If you accept analytics, we store cookie_consent: "accepted"
• If you decline, we store cookie_consent: "declined"
• This preference persists until you clear your browser data
• You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage for this site

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics may set cookies on your device. These are first-party cookies under your browser's domain. See section 5 for details.

5. Google Analytics

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use this site. This helps us identify which calculator modes are most useful, improve the tool, and prioritise new features.

What GA4 collects:

• Pages you visit and how long you spend on them
• Which calculator tabs you use (e.g. "Inside vs Outside IR35")
• Whether you clicked Calculate
• Your approximate location (country and region — not street level)
• Device type, operating system, and browser
• How you arrived at the site (e.g. Google search, direct link)

What GA4 does NOT collect (from us):

• Your financial inputs (day rate, salary, expenses etc.)
• Your name, email address, or any personally identifying information
• Precise location data

We have configured GA4 with IP anonymisation enabled. We do not share GA4 data with any other parties or use it for advertising targeting.

Google's own privacy policy applies to data processed by GA4: policies.google.com/privacy

Google provides an Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on if you wish to opt out of all Google Analytics tracking across websites.

Analytics are only loaded after you explicitly click "Accept Analytics" on the consent banner. If you click Decline, no analytics code runs on your device.

6. Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links, marked with rel="sponsored" in the HTML. This means if you click a link and subsequently purchase a product or service (such as IR35 insurance or an accountancy subscription), we may receive a commission from the provider at no additional cost to you.

Our current affiliate partners include:

Affiliate commissions help fund the development and maintenance of this free tool. Our recommendations are based on merit, not commission rates — we only link to services we believe are genuinely useful for UK contractors.

When you click an affiliate link, the partner's own privacy policy governs any data you provide to them.

7. Advertising

This site may display third-party advertisements via Carbon Ads or Google AdSense. These ad networks may use cookies to serve relevant ads and measure performance.

If Google AdSense is in use, you can opt out of personalised advertising via Google's Ad Settings. We configure AdSense to respect consent signals — personalised ads will only be shown if you have accepted analytics cookies.

8. Your rights under UK GDPR

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have the following rights in relation to any personal data we hold:

• Right to access — request a copy of any data we hold about you
• Right to erasure — request deletion of your data
• Right to object — object to our processing of your data
• Right to withdraw consent — withdraw your analytics consent at any time
• Right to lodge a complaint — with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) at ico.org.uk

Since this site collects minimal data and no financial information, most of these rights are of limited practical relevance. However, we take them seriously. To exercise any right, contact us at hello@ir35guide.co.uk.
